“I felt there was an opportunity to create something great – to create quality and value in a new and innovative way”

Martin Commins

Martin Commins’ journey began not in the sparkle of precious gems but in the halls of academia. With an educational background in economics and accounting from Trinity College Dublin and Michael Smurfit School of Business, he was poised for a corporate career. However, his entrepreneurial spirit had other plans.

In 2009, Martin initiated his foray into the diamond industry by establishing an online platform that connected jewellers across Ireland. The platform thrived, reaching its peak with over 40 jewellers showcasing more than 5,000 rings to over 4,000 daily visitors. But Martin had a broader vision. He identified the challenges faced by customers in finding customized, high-quality diamond jewellery that offered value for money.

Fuelled by a desire to address these challenges, Martin founded Bespoke Diamonds in 2012. His relentless pursuit of excellence led him to assemble a dream team of designers, goldsmiths, polishers, and diamond setters – the crème de la crème of the industry. Under Martin’s astute guidance, Bespoke Diamonds has grown to become a beacon of creativity and craftsmanship in Dublin.

Today, Bespoke Diamonds is synonymous with exquisitely crafted custom diamond jewellery that reflects the unique love stories of those who wear them.

What is a “Bespoke Engagement Ring?”

We made “bespoke” mean something.

Fifteen years ago you chose from whatever was in stock and were told, “that’s how it comes.” We built a different path: true bespoke, fully in-house. The word is everywhere now, but real bespoke is still rare. It means full CAD design, a try-on wax, and master goldsmith oversight at every step.

Choice, quality and service are what “bespoke” means in engagement rings, and that is down to us.

OUR UNIQUE CAD & WAX PREVIEW

CAD design: We build a precise 3D model of your ring with exact measurements (band width, head height, claw thickness, stone seats). You will see realistic renders and dimensions for sign-off.
Rapid tweaks: Small changes (height, taper, claw style) are made directly in the file before anything is produced in metal.
Wax print: We 3D-print a wax prototype you can try on to check proportions on hand: profile height, comfort between fingers, and how a wedding band will sit.
Final approval: Once the wax feels right, that exact CAD is used to proceed to casting, ensuring what you approved is what is made.

Certified Diamond Specialists

Diamond certification is a process where a diamond is evaluated and graded by a professional gemologist from a reputable diamond certification body. These certification bodies assess the diamond based on several factors, including but not limited to its carat weight, color, clarity, and cut – often referred to as the “Four Cs”. The result of this assessment is a diamond certificate, also known as a diamond grading report, which provides an expert opinion on the quality of the diamond. This certification process provides assurance to both buyers and sellers about the quality and value of the diamond.

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is one of the most highly respected diamond certification bodies in the world. Established in 1931, GIA is an independent, non-profit organization that conducts gem research, educates gem professionals, and sets the standards for determining diamond quality. GIA introduced the “Four Cs” methodology, which has become the global standard for assessing diamond quality.

The International Gemological Institute (IGI) is another well-known diamond certification body. Founded in 1975, IGI is based in Antwerp, Belgium, but has offices around the world. IGI is known for its detailed analysis and clear documentation of diamonds and other gemstones. It is one of the largest organizations of its kind and is particularly popular in European and Asian markets.

HRD Antwerp, formerly known as the Hoge Raad voor Diamant, is based in the city of Antwerp, Belgium, a major hub of the global diamond industry. Established in 1976, HRD Antwerp is one of Europe’s most respected organizations for diamond certification. HRD Antwerp is known for its stringent grading standards and is highly regarded in the global diamond industry.
